MAL STEVENS - THE AUTHOR was born in 1971 in the small, country town of Geraldton, Western Australia, and at the very tender age of five - after discovering a love for reading whilst sitting at her Pops feet whilst he read in his library, decided that she would someday become an Author. Often her family and friends thought her weird because no matter where she was she could always be found with her nose in a book…and if her nose wasn’t in a book because of reading it, then it could be found in one of her many hundreds of journal notebooks filled with fanciful made up stories, and vivid descriptions about her life in general, and poetry.
Today, I am a Registered Nurse by trade, a Mum 24/7, a Mining and Construction Medic by day and a writer by night. I rarely sleep (one day I think I am going to pay for that!) I find writing therapeutic, and I happily and passionately lose myself to it on a daily basis.
People can look at that layer of me that they think they ‘know’ so well…the ‘me’ that they see, energy, lover of life, ‘getting things done’, loud talker, laughter, tears, kindness, yelling, friend, enemy, not-so-nice things, way I dress, way I look, the scars on my heart…and they could very well say that they know me, but they really don’t, but they deserve to…so this is me.
Since the age of nine I have been writing stories, poems, songs…bajillions of them, bits of paper that were scrunched up in the corners everywhere, under my mattress, inside the cracks of the couch, all over my bedroom floor…words…words…words were always so beautiful to me. I am a bookworm, a nerd, I was that little girl who stayed up until 4am secretly reading books under the sheets with a torch…terrified of being discovered. Books, and writing were always my escape. Instead of play time, computer time, seeing friends or mobile phones being confiscated from me, it was reading and writing that consumed my time, and when I was naughty, it was reading books that I was banned from.
Today, things are very different. Reading and writing have always been a part of me. I don't ever remember a time in my life when I wasn’t reading or writing. It is a part of who I am. It is 'ME'. It is as natural to me as eating, and breathing!
Through my writing I hope to someday contribute significantly to change surrounding the future of humankind, and the interaction that we experience both within ourselves, and with each other every single day. I will continue to explore the awareness that I have of myself, and of my own personal journey, and of the human interactions that I have with others, and I will be aware of the learned and remembered knowledge that I acquire along the way.
I am on my way to becoming the very best expression of my own personal uniqueness, and every day I strive ever more forward in reaching that heightened awareness and present state that is my very own being.
